My approach is client-centered, responsive to your needs. Our work is best described as collaborative, interactive, and forthright. While I may possess certain areas of expertise, you are likely the greater expert of yourself. Together we can celebrate your strengths, joys, and successes in your life, and address any obstacles or challenges. My style is compassionate, informed and either flexible or directive, as needed. I can work with highly verbal, as well as less language-based thinkers, fast or slow processing, literal, abstract, creative, non-linear, divergent and matrix, conceptualizers.
In psychotherapy my therapeutic framework is integrative, blending training in a broad range of theories and techniques such as cognitive-behavioral (CBT), dialectical behavior (DBT), acceptance and commitment (ACT), polyvagal, psychodynamic, Jungian, positive psychology, problem-solving, developmental, social, existential, mind-body, healing, and spiritual orientations of therapy depending on the match with the client. If you have or get neuropsychological, personality, and/or academic testing, we readily integrate them into our work so you understand the roles your wiring, strengths and asynchronies play in your life, your sense of self, and ultimately, your purpose.
Where indicated and desired, I weave into my work specialized training in behavioral medicine, neuropsychological, psychological, and academic testing and teaching, mindfulness and relaxation practices, hypnosis, art therapy, collage, journaling, pain management, values and virtue clarification, dream work, visualization, movement and labyrinths-walking meditation.
I believe that the more you understand the interactions between your brain, body, emotions, thoughts, history, values, priorities, behaviors, society, relationships, systems, and cultural influences, the freer you become to make intentional choices toward living the self-actualized life at home, work/school, or in community, that aligns with your identity, goals, and potential.
The interventions I use vary depending upon my client and the issues we are addressing. They generally fall within the realms of recognizing and aspiring toward personal, interpersonal, institutional, educational, global, ethical and spiritual health and balance.
